Partnered with an MA Fine Art student we were asked to produce a piece of work based around the partners' practice but rendered in our own style within five days culminating in an exhibition.
As a painter the other half of my pair had many ideas and reasons behind why she produced her large scale work on paper. After conversations I decided to use one of her quotes that arose from dialogue between us; 'The State Of Knowing'. It spoke to me on many levels and due to the nature of the project, namely two different disciplines being thrown together, it seemed appropriate as our opinions converged and diverged at different points. At its most basic, The State of Knowing faded and shone at different times during our partnership.
Physically the text is hand rendered in 1500pt Helvetica Bold on a roll of poster paper, painted with black acrylic paint.
The installation with the scroll turned back at the end aids the lack of understanding sometimes felt during the project but ultimately the viewer has an educated guess as to what it might say and the message it conveys.
